Birth Certificate

The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia in Geneva assists Somali nationals residing in Switzerland and Austria with the registration and certification of birth certificates for themselves and their children. A registered birth certificate confirms identity, nationality, and family relationships, and is often required for school enrollment, residency procedures, passport applications, and other official matters. Applicants are generally required to provide a completed application form, the parents’ identity documents or passports, proof of marriage (where applicable), and the applicable consular fee. For children born in Switzerland or Austria, a copy of the local civil registry birth record should also be submitted to support registration with Somali authorities. Processing times may vary depending on verification with civil registry authorities in Somalia.
