Who Can Apply

Somali nationals who have had a child born in Switzerland or Austria may register the birth with the Embassy and obtain an official Somali birth certificate. This is required for the child's Somali citizenship, passport application, and other official documentation.

Required Documents

  • Official Swiss or Austrian birth certificate (original + certified translation into Somali or English)
  • Valid passports or national IDs of both parents
  • Marriage certificate of parents (if applicable)
  • Completed Embassy application form
  • Two passport-sized photographs of the child
  • Application fee (cash only, payable at the Embassy)

Processing Time

Birth certificate applications typically take 4–8 weeks to process. Applicants will be notified by the Embassy when the certificate is ready for collection.
