Power of Attorney (Wakaalad)
A Power of Attorney, known in Somali as “Wakaalad,” allows a person residing in Switzerland or Austria to formally authorize a representative in Somalia or elsewhere to act on their behalf in legal, financial, or administrative matters. The Embassy can certify and authenticate Wakaalad documents for use by the Somali community.
Common uses for a Wakaalad include authorizing someone to manage property, represent the applicant in court, handle bank or business transactions, or complete civil registration matters in Somalia. To prepare a Power of Attorney, applicants typically need a valid identity document, details of the appointed representative, a clear description of the powers being granted, and the applicable consular fee. The document must be signed in the presence of consular staff or otherwise properly notarized.
For guidance on drafting a Power of Attorney suited to your situation, or to schedule an appointment, please contact the Embassy at 022 731 54 50 or Genevasomalia@gmail.com.
