Our Role at the UN

The Permanent Mission of Somalia to the United Nations in Geneva represents Somalia's interests at the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) and the numerous international organizations headquartered in the city, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and others.

Geneva is one of the world's most important centres of multilateral diplomacy. Somalia's Permanent Mission actively engages in negotiations, working groups, and high-level meetings on issues critical to Somalia's development and security.

The Mission works closely with the Embassy in Bern to ensure a coherent and effective Somali foreign policy presence in Switzerland.

Key Engagements

Human Rights Council
Somalia engages actively in the UN Human Rights Council, advancing accountability and protection for Somali civilians.
Humanitarian Affairs
Coordination with OCHA, UNHCR, and WFP on humanitarian response to crises affecting Somalia.
Sustainable Development
Participation in development forums aligned with Somalia's National Development Plan and the SDGs.
Disarmament & Security
Engagement with the Conference on Disarmament and security-related UN bodies on Horn of Africa stability.
