Official Holidays

The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Somalia observe both Somali national holidays and certain Swiss public holidays, during which the offices are closed to the public. Consular and diplomatic services resume on the next working day following each holiday closure. Somali national holidays observed include New Year’s Day (1 January), Foundation Day of the Federal Republic (1 July), and Independence Day (1 July). Religious holidays such as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are observed according to the Islamic lunar calendar and dates are confirmed annually. The Mission and Embassy are also closed on principal Swiss public holidays observed in Geneva, including New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Ascension Day, Whit Monday, Swiss National Day (1 August), and Christmas (25 December). For the exact dates of holiday closures in a given year, or to confirm office hours before visiting, please contact the Embassy directly at 022 731 54 50 or Genevasomalia@gmail.com.
